Couples Therapy
What is Couples Therapy?
Couples therapy is for anyone in a committed relationship. Whether you are working through current-day struggles or ongoing patterns, you have emotional concerns or sexual concerns, coming to couples therapy is a great option. Often, the stereotype is that couples therapy is the “last resort” or “the relationship is over if we start therapy” - those ideas could not be further from the truth. Coming to couples therapy says you are committed to figuring out what’s going on in your relationship. Often, couples who graduate therapy say that it’s the best relationship in their life! We want you to have this same feeling after therapy.
The Process
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is the foundation of couples work here at Refuge Healing Center. Because of its emphasis on attachment and relational work, it suits a broad range of couples looking toward healing.
How do we do this? EFT is a stage-based process that couples move through at an individualized pace:
-
Stage 1: De-Escalation
Identify negative cycles and reduce conflict.
-
Stage 2: Restructuring
Build new emotional responses and deepen connection.
-
Stage 3: Consolidation
Strengthen new patterns and create lasting change
